Yorick Comics

All of these cartoons work because they are assuming that the viewer knows Hamlet or can at least recognize the imagery of holding a skull, or are familiar with the line "Alas, poor Yorick." Although it is often misquoted as "Alas, poor Yorick, I knew him well, the general public has probably heard the line and can even associate with the image of a skull (unless they wrongly associate that with "To be or not to be") and so are able to get the many jokes and spoofs that this image and dialogue have spawned.
